Redesign
Welcome to the Redesigned SNHF Website!
The Redesign
Welcome to the new online information home of the MFA in Science and Natural History Filmmaking (SNHF) Program! While we reluctantly retired the iconic "hairball bobcat" that held dominion on the page for more than a decade, we have introduced new features that we hope both current and prospective students as well as our alumni will find useful.
Student Work
One of our goals was to offer more access to our students' outstanding production work. You will now find a showreel of excerpts from selected student films, three featured films, and a database of almost all the thesis films submitted and accepted for the MFA in the eleven-year history of the program. This Electronic Thesis Film Database (ETFD) is the SNHF's media companion to the Electronic Thesis Database (ETD) The Graduate School maintains for written thesis work. All the thesis papers for SNHF and all the other MSU programs may be found in this second database. By pairing the two databases, it is now possible to watch a film, read the related thesis, and gain a comprehensive idea of an individual student's thesis level work.
Keep Informed
Since the SNHF is active throughout the world, the News section will provide a quick update to the most recent activities and developments in the program. Every three months (and often sooner) we will provide news briefs, profile a current student's program goals, and update the accomplishments of our very distinguished alumni.
Practical Information
We have also provided some very practical guidance information for current and prospective students. Application procedures, an FAQ section, the handbooks for the most recent cohorts, and links to The Graduate School site will assist and inform our current students and applicants.
One-Click Access to TERRA: The Nature of Our World
For those who follow our Webby-award-winning special productions project, TERRA: The Nature of Our World, or who wish to learn about it, the new SNHF site has a convenient button that links to the TERRA site and database. Already widely known for bringing the work of environmentally concerned filmmakers to over 90,000 visitors a month, the site is now under the supervision of Emmy-nominated Executive Producer and SFP faculty member Gianna Savoie. TERRA will be introducing exciting programming and unique production partnership developments in the coming months.
We Can Now Be Found at http://www.montana.edu/sfp/sciencenaturefilm/
Our URL has changed to reflect both our status as part of the 52-year-old Montana State University School of Film and Photography and our many films on non-animal sciences along with those dealing with natural history. The new URL is http://www.montana.edu/sfp/sciencenaturefilm/. Until December 31, 2012, users accessing the old "nature film" URL will be redirected to our new address. Please bookmark our new location.
Many Thanks
Many people contributed to the site during its redesign. Special thanks to Bob Cruz, Jared Beret, Roshan Patel, SFP Director Bob Arnold, Gianni Savoie, Anne Loi, showreel score composer Crystal Grooms (an MSU undergraduate alum) and, most especially, web developer and designer, Jason Clark.
Please Let Us hear From You
We consider the website a dynamic participatory site, and we encourage visitors to send us comments and suggestions. News items, employment and internship opportunity announcements, and alumni news will all be very much appreciated. Please send all comments and correspondence to snhf@montana.edu or call us at 406.994.5884.
On to the Next Decade
It is our hope that the website will strengthen the already energetic creative community of filmmakers the SNHF has created and inspired over the past eleven years.
Very best wishes to all,

Dennis Aig
Program Head
